This is the process of ending your Medicare health care coverage and/or your Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage. If you want to disenroll from your Medicare Part D plan and you do not want to enroll in a new plan, you can do this during the Open Enrollment Period, between Oct. 15th – Dec. 7th each year. It is possible to drop this coverage outside of the Open Enrollment Period, but you must meet certain special circumstances.

It is possible to switch from your Medicare Advantage Plan to Medicare Parts A and B during the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period of Jan. 1 to Feb. 14 each year. If you decide to make this switch you will also have until Feb. 14th to also join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan to add prescription drug coverage.

Judy elected to disenroll from her Medicare Advantage Plan and switch to Medicare Parts A and B on Jan. 14 because she had what she believed to be a superior health plan lined up.
