Benefit Period

Benefit Period Starts the day you get admitted in HospitalIf you have Medicare Part A, the benefit period starts on the day you enter a skilled nursing facility or a hospital and ends when you have been out of the aforementioned facilities for more than 60 consecutive days. It is possible for you to go to a medical facility more than once during the benefit period, and while there is no limit on the number of periods covered by Medicare, you will have to pay a deductible on each one.

While John did have to go to the hospital on one occasion, he remained relatively healthy and only had one benefit period during the entire year.
